If you don’t know much about SEO, you’re not alone. Many people don’t understand the basics of SEO and how it works.

In this blog post, I’m going to break down the fundamentals of SEO.

But first, let me define SEO.

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization is the process of optimizing your website to rank higher on the Search Engine Results Page (SERPs) and so getting more organic traffic.

SEO best practices make sure that your website is indexed and ranked highly in search engine results for the keywords that are relevant to your business.

SEO is important because it helps your business to be found by potential customers.

When someone searches for something on a search engine such as Google, the search engine will look through its index of websites to find the most relevant results.

It does this by looking at the content on the website, the keywords, and the number of external links pointing to the website... The optimization of your website is what helps it to be found in search engine results.

Now, that you understand the meaning of SEO, you are probably thinking that you can do it with PPC.

Even if SEO and PPC are different strategies, one of their goals is to attract leads, have more traffic, being more visibility.

Table about the different between SEO vs PPC

You can use the PPC strategy but if your content is not relevant and or good. If the design of your website is bad, and your website is not functional, everyone will leave it after 5 seconds. Furthermore, PPC can’t be forever, the cost will be too important.

In other ways, when it comes to SEO strategies there are different ones that can be used to optimize your website.

  1. On-page SEO,

  2. Keyword research,

  3. Off-pages SEO,

  4. Local SEO,

  5. Mobile SEO,

  6. Technical SEO,

  7. Link building,

  8. White hat, black hat SEO,

  9. But don’t worry a lot of tools can help you to optimize and track data.

First, let me clarify on-page SEO and off-page SEO

On-page SEO Vs. Off-pages SEO

There are several types of SEO techniques, but two equally are important: on-page SEO and off-page SEO.

On-page SEO is everything you can do on your website from optimizing the keywords, content, structure, images, title tag, and internal links to making it easier for search engines to crawl and index the website.

On the other hand, off-page SEO consists of creating links and promoting the website through other channels like social media and directories. This kind of SEO can help you in enhancing the authority and reputation of our website, online, which may ultimately result in better search engine rankings.

To resume On-page SEO, it’s all the practices you can take on your website. And Off-page SEO is all the practices outside your website to conduct to your website.

Keyword research

The core of SEO is keywords. No matter how hard you try, you can write a masterpiece, the best blog post of the century, you won't receive any traffic if no one is looking for what you're writing about.

In fact, even before writing content, or looking for ideas for content, study what people are looking for. And which keywords have been used to find your website… It is never done to conduct keyword research; you must do it frequently to keep relevant.

Local SEO

Local SEO is important for you if you want to target customers in a specific region, city, or neighbourhood. Because your commerce is in this area or because you serve a specific area.

This means optimizing your website with local keywords and creating a local listing, writing local content that is relevant to the target audience.

Last but not least, building local backlinks.

These practices will help you to rank higher for local research on SERPs.

Mobile SEO

Nowadays, you can’t have a website no-mobile-friendly. By having a website not optimized for mobile, first, your visitors will leave your website after a few seconds and secondly, your ranking will be penalized. Mobile SEO should be part of your SEO strategy because more and more people are using their smartphones to make research, and even to buy online.

Technical SEO

Technical SEO is a more advanced type of SEO that involves optimizing a website’s technical structure. Such as site speed, mobile responsiveness, improving page load speed, implementing proper use of HTML tags, and correcting broken links and crawl errors.

This type of SEO is essential for ensuring that search engines can crawl and index a website effectively.

Link building

To achieve a successful SEO strategy, it is crucial to include link building as a vital component.

The process of link building entails obtaining links from external websites to your own website, which can significantly improve your website’s search engine ranking. The purpose of this is to increase your website’s credibility and authority in the eyes of search engines like Google.

Link building can be achieved through various tactics, such as guest blogging, broken link building, and infographics.

However, it is important to note that not all backlinks are created equal. Quality backlinks from authoritative websites carry more weight than low-quality backlinks from spammy websites…

White Hat, black hat SEO

The terms "white hat" and "black hat" are frequently used in the context of SEO. In essence, white hat refers to ethical SEO techniques that search engines endorse. Whereas black hat refers to unethical SEO techniques that violate search engine guidelines.

Black hat approaches may appear to raise search ranks quickly and easily, but they never pay off in the long run and are subject to penalties from search engines. With algorithm adjustments, search engines also make it their business to reduce the efficiency of black hat SEO.

Probably, you are a bit overwhelmed with all that information but don’t worry tools can help in your SEO journey.

SEO tools

You have a lot of choices for SEO tools: download software, online tools, free ones or not. Those tools will help you to track any flows, potential growth, or issues, that can affect your ranking and visibility in the SERPs. They can help you to check the overall well-being of your website and even look for keywords.

In conclusion, SEO is an essential practice that helps your business increase its online visibility and attract more organic traffic.

By optimizing your website with on-page, off-page, technical, local, and mobile SEO strategies… you can improve your website’s search engine ranking and reach potential customers.

The most crucial thing to keep in mind concerning SEO is that there are no shortcuts to success.

Remember that SEO trends are continuously evolving.
